ANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante says that New Your trashers should be nominated for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame because of the role band played in creating the rap rock genre.

During a recent appearance on SiriusXM‘s “Trunk Nation,” drummer explained ANTHRAX‘s absence from Rock Hall to Eddie Trunk: “It’s funny, because every time I see, every year they have the nominees, and it’s, like, I look on the list and I’m, like, ‘Okay. Okay. Okay. What? What?’

He continued: “The reason why I think we should be nominated for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame is because of the stamp that we made on rock and heavy metal music.

“If it wasn’t for us, man, there’d be a lot of bands that wouldn’t be around today. And I don’t mean to sound, ‘Oh, this guy’s got a huge ego,’ but we introduced a lot of people to rap music and to that whole style that became ‘nu metal.’ And we never really talk about it too much, but since you brought it up, it’s, like, yeah.

Benante added: “I think that’s more important to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, because of what genre it created, and that genre created such another genre.”

Last year, IRON MAIDEN frontman Bruce Dickinson was asked by a fan if he thinks the band should be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

He responded: “Absolutely… I actually think the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is an utter and complete load of bollocks, to be honest with you.

“It’s run by a bunch of sanctimonious bloody Americans who wouldn’t know rock and roll if it hit them in the face. They need to stop taking Prozac and start drinking f**king beer.”
