Dødsferd – Diseased Remnants of a Dying World

Dødsferd are really the kind of band which surprises you in each track. It reminds me a lot Tormentor due to the extreme variation of styles into songs. “Diseased Remnants of a Dying World” is an album that goes far beyond any labelling due to the complex songwriting which comprises tons of styles into Metal and, believe me, pop. I bet that if you start your listening by first track – btw, which is obvious – you will have the urge of smashing “Diseased Remnants of a Dying World” on the wall. Yeah, it sounds like a pop song. Of course, not today’s scumbag pop, but 1970s or 1980s. But “My Father, My Wrath!” is so damn good with its acoustic guitars, beautiful melody and lyrics. There is a pinkfloydish touch in it, and that’s what makes it so great. “My Father, My Wrath!” is so different from other tracks that it seems not to have been written by Dødsferd. It is the living proof that Metal bands can write songs to impress the common listener, but we’d rather not.

Dødsferd and “Diseased Remnants of a Dying World” impress because of the capability of writing uncanny and completely different songs. Not only, “Diseased Remnants of a Dying World” is the kind of album that I call unpredictable due to the impossibility of guessing which path the following track will take. In these days, that’s really an amazing thing. There are many things possible to say about Dødsferd, but regular is very far from it. Imagine the title track “Diseased Remnants of a Dying World” as instrumental only with all its plot twists of tempo, pace, and rhythm making it almost impossible to label. “Diseased Remnants of a Dying World” has an epic grip that goes around near all Metal styles in only one song with an emotional and desperate vocal. It is possible to identify nearly all Metal styles in it. Really a masterpiece of modern Metal. Yeah, that’s what I do call Modern Metal. Can it get even better? Yeah, it can. “Loyal To The Black Oath” does the magic with stunning guitar solos, mesmerizing riffs, and even more emotional and desperate vocals. Almost an anthem.

Here’s an album that should be part of the collection of any Metal fan. It’s worth all the bucks you put on it. A real piece of avant-garde Metal, in the good sense, of course.
