June 1974 are Prog Metal band that almost touch the borders of art rock. That’s one the many reasons I say they are an elegant band. Bottomline, June 1974 are a powerhouse of elegant solutions to their songs. They use a myriad of sonic solutions as pianos, acoustic guitars, tremolos, organs, and many others. In each song there is a different solution from violins to 1970ish effects. In fact, June 1974 are much more near the 1970s than any other decade. There is a lot of Yes in their music. The same notion of applying the right instrument to each song; the same notion of finding elegant sonic solutions to their songs.
On second thought, there are songs with some dashes of modern Metal features as double bass playing as in “Arcadia” with the heaviest guitar of all. Other songs as “Nothing Man” with a sound and clear jazzy saxophone, which isn’t usual even in art rock. Of course, there are lots of jazz influences in art rock bands, but the use of the saxophone is restrict. “Nemesi” isn’t only the 1970ish dashes I told before. It also calls the eye all the guests in “Nemesi.” Some of them very related to Metal as Andy LaRocque, James Murphy, Paul Masvidal, Patrick Mameli, and Jørgen Munkeby.
“Nemesi” is the album to whom want to hear some musical finesse and elegance.
