The Agonist – Five

683_the_agonist  The world of metal as a whole is far from sexist in my opinion, but I think we can all agree the ratio between men and women vocalists is greatly differing with their being f**k tons more guys singing in metal than women. I find that a true shame as some bands manages to have a frontwoman who blows their job right out of the f**king water. Let’s take The Agonist for example, and use their upcoming album “Five” as the main argument. This monster of an album has a f**king ridiculous fourteen tracks to its name, so everyone will have at least one song to enjoy off of “Five”. Then there’s the matter of the fact that the vocals are the most obvious, dynamic, and most well-done aspect of this entire album. I’m not trying to shame everything else about the album because the whole of “Five” is a magnificent piece to add to the illustrious discography that The Agonist has already formed, but to me, this is the most mammoth and most impressive of all their works. The record has got all sorts of ups and downs that just grip the listener whether or not you’re an immediate fan which, I’ll be honest, I wasn’t feeling “Five” at first, but it really grew on me soon after. It’s the smooth singing and the ferocious roars busted out by the extremely talented vocalist of The Agonist that carry this album for me, and in the end made the piece a superbly satisfying thing to listen to. I can honestly see just about anyone who gives “Five” a chance really enjoy the time they’d have poured into it as I do. And let it be known that The Agonist is one of those bands that managed to rise above many others with a woman leading the charge, and I can’t wait to see many others who were inspired by the greatness of “Five” follow in their footsteps. That would be something to behold, indeed.

“Five” releases on September 30th! You can pre-order the album via iTunes here.
