Voodoo Circle – Locked & Loaded Review

I have no doubt that those are the craziest years of all in the history of humankind. The up and downs of life and the backs and forths of history are the milestone of them all. In one hand, new technologies killed the way the old industry of music used to do business. The radio, for instance, isn’t a popular media anymore. So, there is no room anymore for the music they used to serve. On the other hand, the massive requirements of the market left room for many independent or alternative labels that now are able to contract all kinds of bands of many stiles. This new release here is one good example of this. In the good old times of the old music industry, Voodoo Circle with “Locked Loaded” would be a serious player to American FM radios with Hard Rock based on the Blues and 1980s features as Whitesnake and Warrant. The big guns that sold zillion of copies all around the world aren’t able to do it anymore. Well, this kind of music has been in a downsouth for some time, I know. Now, it’s got another chance.

David Readman’s tone of voice reminds a lot his eponymous Whitesnake’s David Coverdale which makes the music in here be very peculiar because it gathers elements of the aforementioned bands. If memory serves me right, there is a little Saxon from the “Innocense Is No Excuse” era. It’s not that Voodoo Circle repet the old cliches. No, it’s not that at all. It’s the good old use of influences in order to make their own music. The first notes and sounds of “This Song Is For You” remind a lot what Gary Moore used to do in his solo career. But, it turns out diferent due to the very personal voice of David Readman. Voodoo Circle prove here that the good old Blues influences are never down. “This Song Is For You” sounds just perfect. I guess it wouldn’t be wrong to say that in a way Voodoo Circle also remind Deep Purple’s David Coverdale’s era.

In my opinion, it’s great to see bands that value all the finesse those bands had. This kind of music os so strong to simply fade away victim of fashions and trends. For the record, opening track “Flesh & Bone” is too good to be true, if you know what I mean. The perfect meld of the fast and the furious with the great finesse. Pay close attention to the nice keyboards in the back and the catchy guitar riffing. By the way, I guess I haven’t seen a track so sexy and sensual as “Locked Loaded.” The way the band combines the ffects with some vaudeville is just great.

Voodoo Circle “Locked Loaded” will be released on January 15th via AFM Records.
