A Scar for the Wicked – Acolythus Review

hehehehehehehe An album whose tittle is smaller than the band’s name. Very unusual. So very unusual.

“Acolythus” is an album full of anger. It’s so much anger A Scar for the Wicked put in it that the album starts with that open and direct roar I have always said I love. The album reveals the fan all the anger and rage there is in this sad and lonely and pathetic little planet by the very well-known duet of voices many bands are using today. But A Scar for the Wicked had the guts to make it even more angrier. The album bounces faster than hell tracks with cadenced ones where vocals do all the trick to show all the fuzzy emotion the band wants to pass.

Musicwise, “Acolythus” is pretty varied with strong Black Metal instrumentals combind with other Extreme Metal features. Even though there are tracks that stand out for being out of the box as the grand finale “The Son of Dawn” which follows a more burlesque kind of Black Metal giving that impression of being part of terror movie. Its opening act “Seven Wraiths” is a piece that combines many elements of Extreme Metal with an astonishing velocity and power the guitars imprint. “The Ophidiant Offspring” comes with the vocal duet that is the paramont characteristic of the album showing all the angst it is possible to deliver in an album. Sometimes the fan will feel a bit overwhelmed by the dark and opressive atmosphere of the album. But that’s a great quality for a Metal album, isn’t it? I guess we all agree. A big highlight to the guitars and the drumming that make the killing bound with all tracks. Tittle track “Acolythus” is one of the most frightening tracks of the album with a scary, and haunted, piano sound in the beginning. It’s possible to see the killer or the ghost or the zombie getting around.

A Scar for the Wicked prepared this album with all the care needed to stand out from the crowd. It’s at the same time faster than hell and larger than life combined with an opressive melody. It’s at the same time captivating and intriguing due to the instrumentals and the variations the band imprints.

A Scar for the Wicked “Acolythus” was released on November 08th.
