After Pressure From Serbian Authorities, EXIT Festival Festival Announces 2026 Move To Egypt’s Pyramids

Egypt Pyramids

EXIT Festival, one of Europe’s most renowned music events, has officially confirmed plans to move its flagship celebration from Serbia to a truly iconic location — the Egyptian pyramids — in 2026. The announcement comes amid reports of mounting pressure from Serbian authorities following the festival’s vocal support for recent student-led protests in the country.

As first reported by Jutarnji list, EXIT organizers have signed an agreement with Egyptian event production giant Venture Lifestyle to launch a brand-new festival at the foot of the pyramids next October. This marks a monumental shift in the festival’s history, as it becomes the first full-scale music festival ever staged in front of one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

While EXIT has long been known for its diverse lineup of electronic, hip-hop, and pop acts, the 2026 edition in Egypt will not be short on metal power either. The first wave of heavy names includes death-doom veterans ASPHYX, Brazilian death machine KRISIUN, Singaporean blackened chaos-bringers IMPIETY, Romanian progressive folk-metal act DORDEDUH, ferocious Brazilian hardcore/punk unit ESKRÖTA, and the fantasy-fueled power metal warriors GLORYHAMMER.

After years of hosting its main festival at the Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad — along with sister events like Sea Star and Sea Dance on the Adriatic coast — EXIT is now preparing for a bold new chapter. With the pyramids as a backdrop, the festival will blend ancient history with sonic extremity, promising a once-in-a-lifetime experience for metalheads and music lovers alike.

Partnering with Venture Lifestyle, EXIT will join a legacy of high-profile performances in Egypt, a region where the production company has already hosted shows with the likes of Jennifer Lopez, John Legend, Carl Cox, and Peggy Gou. Their P+US brand is known for staging events at globally recognized cultural heritage sites, and EXIT’s arrival signals a leap into uncharted territory for international festival culture.

The official unveiling of the Egypt-based edition will come after EXIT’s 25th anniversary celebration in Novi Sad, which kicked off on July 10 with performances by THE PRODIGY, Tiësto, Solomun, DJ Snake, and others.

The move, however, comes under heavy political context. After EXIT openly supported student protests in Serbia demanding democratic reforms, all forms of state co-financing were withdrawn, and organizers reported increased pressure from national authorities. The situation caught international attention, with BBC, The Guardian, and the European festival association Yourope voicing concern and support.

EXIT has always stood for freedom, unity, and cultural evolution — and in 2026, under the shadow of the pyramids and the roar of extreme metal, it will enter a new era.
