Swedish melodic death metal titans AMON AMARTH have returned with a vengeance, releasing their brand-new single “We Rule The Waves” along with an epic music video today, July 17th. The track marks the band’s first new music since their acclaimed 2022 album The Great Heathen Army (Metal Blade Records).
The accompanying video delivers everything fans have come to expect from the Viking metal masters: raging seas, longships crashing through stormy waters, and the sheer force of AMON AMARTH’s battle-ready performance. Combining cinematic storytelling with the band’s trademark ferocity, the clip visually echoes the track’s lyrical theme of domination and triumph on the open ocean.
While no official announcement has been made regarding a new full-length album, frontman Johan Hegg hinted last year that new material was in the works. Speaking to Germany’s Rock Antenne in August 2024, Hegg revealed: “To be honest, we’ve been starting to talk about a new album, but we haven’t started working on it yet. I’ve been working on some lyrical ideas. I know the guys have some musical ideas, but it’s really in its infancy.”
Fans will have the opportunity to experience the band’s new anthem live as AMON AMARTH joins PANTERA for a massive summer 2025 U.S. amphitheater tour. Produced by Live Nation, the trek kicked off on July 15 in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, and will storm through more than two dozen cities before wrapping up on September 13 in West Palm Beach, Florida. Select dates will also feature support from KING PARROT, SNAFU, SHOCK NARCOTIC, and FLESH HOARDER.
The Great Heathen Army, released in 2022 via Metal Blade Records, saw the band collaborating once again with producer Andy Sneap, who previously helmed Deceiver Of The Gods (2013) and Jomsviking (2016). The album solidified AMON AMARTH’s reputation as one of the most dominant forces in extreme metal, and “We Rule The Waves” promises to continue that legacy.
