FaceCulture conducted an interview with ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian on May 31 at the FortaRock festival at Fortarock festival in Nijmegen, The Netherlands . You can now watch the chat in two parts below.
Speaking about raising his nearly three-year-old son, Revel Young Ian, with rock and roll music and how becoming a father has changed his life, Ian said: “It’s the only thing, really, that’s changed my priorities. [My son] comes first, you know, before anything. So in the last three years, that’s the big change that’s happened, certainly.”
He added: “When you have a child, if it doesn’t change your priorities, then you probably shouldn’t have a child.”
Asked if his son likes music already, Ian said: “He loves music. He walks around with drum sticks all day long, and he’s got a drum kit at home and he listens to music all day long. He loves coming up and watching the shows. Yeah, he loves it.”
In a March 2011 press statement, Ian called becoming a father “the biggest [and] best thing that’s ever happened to me.”
The daughter of legendary crooner Meat Loaf, Scott’s wife, Pearl Aday, was named after the infamous Janis Joplin and is the god daughter to Maria Muldaur. In addition, she has toured as a back-up singer with MÖTLEY CRÜE and she and her band have opened for VELVET REVOLVER.
Asked what it’s like having the iconic Meat Loaf as his father-in-law, Ian said in an interview, “It’s like having anyone as your father-in-law. It’s not like he’s on stage when you’re hanging out with the guy. We actually had dinner with him last night, and all we talked about was fantasy football. He’s just a regular guy who happens to be a legendary rock star.”
