As California Rock News reports, Los Angeles-based artist and friend of the Rainbow and the Sunset Strip Travis Moore has been selected to create a realistic depiction of late MOTÖRHEAD frontman Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister. The result will be a life-size cast bronze statue that will stand at just over 6 foot tall to be permanently housed at The Rainbow Bar & Grill in a special shrine that is currently being constructed in the patio bar area.
Travis is doing his part for free, but there are considerable costs associated with the actual process that will ultimately make the statute a reality. A funding campaign was launched by Katon De Pena from classic underground thrash-metal band HIRAX, who has raised about $16,000 so far to support the building of the statue (which he estimates will cost around $20,000).
Travis will provide updates on the creation and sculpting process for the Lemmy Memorial Statue through Social Media.
Lemmy died on December 28, just two days after he found out that he was afflicted with an aggressive form of cancer.
