Tensions are running high in the ASKING ALEXANDRIA fanbase following the band’s June 15th Warped Tour performance, with many calling for longtime frontman Danny Worsnop to step down. The backlash has been most visible on the band’s subreddit, which has exploded with criticism, debate, and disappointment surrounding Worsnop’s appearance and vocal performance.
During the 40-minute set, Worsnop’s onstage presence—or lack thereof—sparked confusion among fans. Dressed head to toe in black sweats, gloves, and a hoodie that obscured his face, the vocalist looked more like he was trying to hide than command the stage. While it was clear he was singing live—silencing ongoing rumors of lip-syncing—many felt the execution was lacking.
Complaints ranged from inconsistent volume levels to flat screams, and while some tracks held up better than others, many fans agreed that the set unraveled by the final few songs. Audience recordings later posted to YouTube revealed moments where Worsnop’s vocals were drowned out by the band—or, conversely, came in too strong and unrefined. His disengaged demeanor and lackluster sign-off at the end of the set only added fuel to the fire.
Speculation about the cause of the underwhelming performance has run wild, from sound mixing issues typical of festival stages to personal struggles Worsnop may be facing. Some even theorized he was simply not interested in being there.
Still, not everyone is ready to throw in the towel. While bassist Sam Bettley did offer a brief apology via Instagram Stories—confirming it was in reference to the Warped Tour performance—some fans believe the criticism is being taken too far. A single off-night, they argue, shouldn’t be grounds for removing a band’s founding vocalist and primary lyricist.
That said, the pressure is on. ASKING ALEXANDRIA’s next Warped Tour date is set for July in Long Beach, and all eyes will be on Worsnop. Whether it’s redemption or reinforcement of fans’ frustrations, the band’s next performance may end up being a turning point.
