AT THE GATES Tease New Album Featuring Late Frontman TOMAS LINDBERG, First Single Out Friday

Tomas Lindberg 2019

Swedish melodic death metal pioneers AT THE GATES have sparked intense speculation about their next chapter after quietly updating their Facebook cover photo with the phrase “The Ghost Of A Future Dead.” The mysterious image, paired with a brief teaser clip and the caption “‘The Ghost Of A Future Dead’ – Coming soon…,” appears to confirm the title of the band’s upcoming studio album.

While no official release date for the full album has been announced, reports suggest that the first single, “The Fever Mask,” is set to drop this Friday, February 20th. Artwork for the single has also been unveiled, adding another layer of anticipation for fans eagerly awaiting new music from the Gothenburg legends.

The upcoming album reportedly features vocals from the band’s late frontman Tomas Lindberg, who passed away on September 16, 2025, at age 52, following complications from adenoid cystic carcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of oral cancer. If true, the album would stand as a posthumous tribute to Lindberg’s enduring influence on metal.

Lindberg helped define the Gothenburg sound, most famously through AT THE GATES’ 1995 landmark release Slaughter of the Soul. His work not only shaped melodic death metal but also left an indelible mark on modern metalcore and countless other subgenres. The razor-sharp riffs, relentless energy, and deeply emotional vocals that he brought to the stage and studio remain a blueprint for extreme metal worldwide.
