Twenty-three years after the legendary Urban Discipline dropped in 1992, Biohazard returns with the original lineup and their new record Divided We Fall — and they’re absolutely crushing it. This is classic Biohazard through and through: Evan and Billy trading off those signature vocals, with Evan sounding nastier than ever. Thankfully, there’s not much of the metal-rap crossover — that sound feels a little too retro and dated now.
What you get here instead is pure Brooklyn hardcore with metallic bite. The breakdowns hit hard, Bobby “The Handball” Hambel’s solos rip with that wild, unhinged flair, and the feedback-laced production has a boomy low end that gives the record serious weight. It’s got balls, it’s got bounce, and it’s got that unmistakable Biohazard attitude.
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting to like this one as much as I do. There might be one weaker track on the record — and that’s me nitpicking — but overall, it’s stacked with strong cuts, gang vocals, killer solos, and tight grooves. For me, Biohazard has always been about those first two records — the debut and Urban Discipline — but this new one stands proudly beside them.
Maybe Biohazard should drop a new record every 23 years if it’s gonna sound this good. It’s got jump, it’s got heart, and it’s got that old-school Brooklyn grit. And closing it all out with a track called “Warriors”? Perfect. You can’t beat that.
