Black Majesty – Oceans of Black Review

The word juggernaut expresses pretty well the music my dear child of the night will find here with Black MajestyOceans of Black,” an album that reinforced my faith on Power Metal. Black Majesty made their Power Metal sound less unpredictable than I have always been saying. Better yet, predictable is a word that does not fit to any of the features of this album. It is true, though, there are a lot of 1990’s Heavy Metal features in it reverberating the music of bands like Primal Fear, or, more notably Angra. However, those are the pros, not the cons of the album.

Firts thing that stands out is the passion Black Majesty deliver to the fan. A passion that turned into the music we hear from “Oceans of Black” take the fan by the heart. Ironically, the guitars of Hanny Mohamed and Clinton James Bidie perform a great deal of technique and prowness as Set Stone On Fire showcases the fan. There is also a great deal of emotion on vocals as “Hold On” soon reveals. The mix of both features is what makes “Oceans of Black” a strange persona into the world of modern Power Metal, where emotions seem to be made of plastic and everything sounds so perfect. “Hold On” also told me Rainbow and Ritchie Blackmore are relevant still for I felt some of them in the track. But the floadgates of emotion are really open with “Raven” one of the most emotional vocals I have heard in a while. I really love the bass lines that double with the drums creating a very powerful effect. I could not help it to say that the morning star receives a vibrant musical wrapping with “Lucifer.” I could feel something of Angra of vocalist Andre Mattos era here in the guitars and vocals.

Oceans of Black” may be an ything, but a standard modern Power Metal album. My dear child of the night might feel it from the beginning with the beautiful and poetic art cover to the band’s name. It is also fair to say Black Majesty do not save on the emotions as well. That’s really the Power Metal I enjoy. Fierceful, strong, well-performed, emotional. The band teaches a lesson on how heart, soul, and passion innovate without having anything new.

Black MajestyOceans of Black” will be released on June 20th via Scarlet Records.
