Cannibal Corpse – Red Before Black

Does this band really need any sort of introduction? It’s Cannibal f**king Corpse. One of the biggest death metal bands to ever splatter blood across the earth and make a career out of it. Simply legendary in the very least, and their influence reaches all the way to peasants like me who cannot help but worship these all mighty gods of death. Every single album that these guys have put out has been no less than a cause for celebration, and this upcoming opus of plague and blood known as “Red Before Black”.

If you’re familiar with Cannibal Corpse at all (and you f**king should be) then you’ll know that this band never once skimps on f**king brutality in any regard, ultimately culminating in a vicious discography that’s littered with style and taste. While every single album undoubtedly has the central style and core of Cannibal Corpse, each release has its own special flavor that’s always brought out to great extent. With “Red Before Black, these masters aimed for a rawer take on their already vicious style while also being more aggressive than they have been of recent. To say that these twelve tracks succeed in the mission that Cannibal Corpse set out to achieve was met with no room left for error.

Not only does “Red Before Black” not waste any time getting to the madness, the album immediately throws you into the carnage that this band has become famous for, and it’s nothing to scoff at by any means. Many people felt that this album was going to be “just another” piece like “A Skeletal Domain” or “Kill” (as if that’s a bad thing), and those people would be f**king wrong because Cannibal Corpse really did manage to make “Red Before Black” much rawer than what we’ve become accustomed to from this band. Such a minor shift is so dramatic in this scenario yet Cannibal Corpse pulls it off with utmost mastery as we’re treated with one of the most complete experiences that this band has ever released, and that makes “Red Before Black” an unforgettable album. From start to finish, “Red Before Black” doesn’t disappoint should you want a song riddled with meaty hooks like “Code of the Slashers”, anthems wreathed in flame like “Heads Shovelled Off”, or even violent tracks that are so fast they’ll melt your skin like “Shedding My Human Skin”. Even after hours of listening to this phenomenal experience of decapitation and disembowelment, “Red Before Black” continues to impress all the way. What else is there to expect from the likes of Cannibal Corpse, though?

Change is good, but too much change can be catastrophic if not taken into moderation. Cannibal Corpse clearly understands such a concept as they continue to be extremely true to themselves with “Red Before Black” as they shook things up just a bit. Where it could’ve been a tough change to make for fans, it’s such a seamless transition that’s all but stylish and entertaining that it’s impossible to see it in a bad way. Cannibal Corpse has always had a mean streak, but for the fourteenth f**king time in a row, they’ve hit the nail right on the head! “Red Before Black” is a monstrous album that lives up to a legendary reputation and carves its own path covered in blood that can’t be ignored!
