Into Coffin – The Majestic Supremacy of Cosmic Chaos

Who doesn’t get a little lazy sometimes?

The criteria to choose which band it’s gonna the next on reviews is to have no criteria at all. Yeah, right! Sometimes I choose bands by the name, or by the cover art, it doesn’t matter. This time I chose Into Coffin “The Majestic Supremacy of Cosmic Chaos” because it is an effort of only two songs. But I didn’t realize “The Majestic Supremacy of Cosmic Chaos” is almost twenty-eight minues long! A complete CD time. Ok, then.

Into Coffin are what people are calling these days a funeral doom metal band. For whom isn’t aware with this label, a funeral doom is more cadenced and slow than regular doom with a funeral voice. As if Satan himself was singing (?). Something like a black metal band played in slow motion. Get it?

The title of this effort, “The Majestic Supremacy of Cosmic Chaos,” tells a lot about the songs. Since the theory of chaos, we know that the universe is made in an organized chaos. There’s a lot of sophisticated math to explain that. But Into Coffin are simple. Musically speaking Into Coffin don’t make use of an intricated musical basis, which is no problem. Chaos is organized, not intricated. Let’s take the first track, “Crawling In Chaos,” for instance. It gives the perfect idea of crawling into chaos. The musical basis for “Crawling In Chaos” is like the universe, an organized chaos. And we all agree that it is Into Coffin’s main idea. The bright side (should there be one?) is that “Crawling In Chaos” has a plot twist in speed in the end.

The second track, “The Evanescence Creature From Nebula’s Dust,” makes a major change in speed. It’s almost a black metal track. The guitars are still doomy, but the drumming gets fast. It makes a great change of heart in “The Majestic Supremacy of Cosmic Chaos.” It seems like another band. In my opinion, that’s great. Few bands can do that. The best thing of  “The Evanescence Creature From Nebula’s Dust”: when one hears it, the feeling is that there’s a creature looking upon your shoulders. Into Coffin’s music is almost plausible. You can feel it in your bones.
