COLDPLAY honored the late Ozzy Osbourne during their concert last night (July 22) at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee, performing a heartfelt cover of BLACK SABBATH’s 1972 classic “Changes.”
Frontman Chris Martin dedicated the entire show to the Prince of Darkness, who passed away yesterday, July 22, at the age of 76.
“We’d like to dedicate this whole show to the incredible genius, talent, and character-full gift to the world who was Ozzy Osbourne,” Martin told the crowd. “We send our love to his family.”
After performing the emotional cover, Martin looked up and added: “Ozzy, we love you, wherever you’re going.”
Ozzy Osbourne’s death comes just weeks after his triumphant final performance at the “Back To The Beginning” concert on July 5 in Birmingham, England. The event reunited the original BLACK SABBATH lineup — Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward — for the last time in front of tens of thousands of fans. It was an emotional celebration of over 50 years of heavy metal, featuring special guest appearances from some of Ozzy’s closest collaborators.
While no official cause of death has been released, Osbourne had long battled Parkinson’s disease and complications from a severe 2019 fall that required multiple surgeries. His health struggles in recent years forced him to retire from touring, but he remained determined to give fans a proper farewell.
In a statement yesterday, his family said: “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis.”
