Could Revival Of ‘Clash Of The Titans’ Tour Happen? DEATH ANGEL Frontman Weighs In

DEATH ANGEL frontman Mark Osegueda has commented on the rumor that stemmed from a recent post on the Facebook page Thrash Metal Family that they had heard through the grapevine that a 30th anniversary celebration of the legendary “Clash Of The Titans” tour could become a reality.

When asked by Jimmy Kay from Canada’s The Metal Voice what the odds are for the revival of the “Clash Of The Titans” and “The Bay Strikes Back” tours (the latter of which also featuring TESTAMENT and EXODUS), Mark said:

“The revival of the Clash Of The Titans one, that’s of course out of our hand. I’ve seen, some rumors floating around everywhere of course, we’ve not been approached so I could not tell you that you know I’ve heard anything. We’ve not been approached as a band as far as the Bay Strikes Back to tour that’s happening in February-March in Europe. That’s TESTAMENT, EXODUS and DEATH ANGEL. I know there is interest for North America, South America, Asia, Australia. So, the goal is, we’re gonna see how it does in Europe and you know there’s talk of, you know, taking it worldwide, if the buzz keeps coming and you know the bands are available. I think it’d be worth it for all the bands involved and the fans. It’s an awesome tour package for sure.”

DEATH ANGEL were initially slated to be the opening act for the summer 1991 North American “Clash Of The Titans” tour, which was triple-headlined by MEGADETH, SLAYER and ANTHRAX. However, the band – who were riding high with the success of its 1990 major-label release “Act III” – were forced to cancel the offer as they were waiting for then-DEATH ANGEL drummer Andy Galeon to recover from his injuries following the band’s tour bus crash in Arizona, and therefore ALICE IN CHAINS took the opening slot of the “Clash Of The Titans” tour.

The first leg of the “Clash Of The Titans” tour took place in Europe in the fall of 1990, and it was co-headlined by MEGADETH and SLAYER and supported by TESTAMENT and SUICIDAL TENDENCIES. These four bands were touring in support of the most successful records of their careers — “Rust In Peace“, “Seasons In The Abyss“, “Souls Of Black” and “Lights…Camera…Revolution!” respectively.

A revival of the “Clash Of The Titans” tour has been rumored for several years now, but industry insiders have reckoned that it will take place in the future by celebrating its 30th anniversary, which happens to be next year. No lineup nor timetable has been determined as of yet, but the assumption is that at least one of the bands from the original tour (particularly MEGADETH and TESTAMENT) will be part of it, but SLAYER – who will be wrapping up their final world tour this coming November – are not expected to be one of them.

The nearest that the “Clash Of The Titans” tour ever came to a revival was in 2010 when MEGADETH and SLAYER co-headlined the “American Carnage” tour, which saw them celebrate the 20th anniversary of their respective albums “Rust In Peace” and “Seasons In The Abyss“. The “American Carnage” tour also featured TESTAMENT and ANTHRAX, who supported the first and second legs, respectively.
