Primal! Raw! Feral!
Cryptic Brood’s “Necrotic Flesh Bacteria” gathers all these and much more. It’s an album of intense energy that goes from the doomiest Doom Metal to the deadliest Death Metal. As a matter of fact, the album mixes both in nine tracks that go in a crescendo. I mean, the album starts real slow and then, track by track, faster than hell. At first, what calls the attention is the simplicity of the music of the band. “Necrotic Flesh Bacteria” isn’t an album of a complex playing nor of a intricate musicality. The album is raw and primal to the word.
The album commences with the pure 1980’s Extreme Metal “Acid Fumes” with its slow intro that rapididly goes wild. The simple and intense guitar riffs wins the fan at first sight – or better yet – listening. It’s fair to say Cryptic Brood are a combination of the raw early Death Metal with the cadence of Doom Metal. The band uses the raw music of very few notes to build up this album. The power trio of Steffen Brandes, drums and vocals, Michael Lehner, guitars and vocals, and Dennis Butzke, bass vocals knocks it hard and heavy, if you know what I mean. It’s with “Oozing Pox” that the band introduces the vocal duet I’d say tells much about about the band. There’s a primal voice that contrasts with a harsher one with a very simple guitar playing – sometimes I have the impression there is something out of tune as in “Viscid Fluid” and its visceral drumming. By the way, visceral is another term that says a lot about “Necrotic Flesh Bacteria.” There is also a sense of an overwhelming despair and repulsiveness that gets the fan by the innards putting them all out in a single stab.
“Necrotic Flesh Bacteria” is the rotten and putrid visceral Death Metal album diehard fans dream of everyday. The intense combination of slow passages with faster than hell ones is one milestone of the album. It seems to me that when Cryptic Brood speed up nobody can make them stop.

I’m just a lucky guy who has chosen metal to live with for a long time. Metal changed my life for good. It made me more confident and stronger. Metalheads are naturally far away from the mass mediocrity and don’t accept impostures from anybody else. Metal is more than music, it’s a life changing oportunity!
