There are albums that are almost impossible to label them quickly and easily due to the combinations made. “Come” is one of them. It would be easy to label it as some kind of Alternative Doom Metal – hmm, I guess I have just made up another Metal subgenre. However, as it happens in all great albums, things change a lot from track to track. The feeling one has listening to the opener may not be the same listening to the grand finale. With “Come” this is exactly what happens.
Put simply, Dark Millennium deliver a combination of some psycho 1970s instrumental with overdriven guitars, some electronics effects that approach the music to some more modern instances and vocals that are clearly inspired on the gnarly voice of Cirith Ungol’s Tim Baker. Not to forget some Prog Rock elements as it happens with “Pieces of Midnight” where the vocals approach a little more to their modern peers. Or, coming to think of it, Dark Millennium would be the bastard child of an encounter of the Prog Rock band Focus with Doom Metal pioneers Cirith Ungol.
First shot “Here“ made instantly me wonder what kind of music I am dealing with here. My first impression was of an Extreme Metal band, but soon my certainties were washed away by “Amber.” This is funny because when I think of it and listen to a separate part of the song I still think I am dealing with an Extreme Metal band, however, the outcome is much more than meets the eye. The overdriven guitars made me rethink my initial position not only due to the sonancy, but also due to the lines they play. But it is “Fear Forest” that goes a little further with the blend Progresive Rock and Doom Metal with its effects and the pungent guitars. The kind of weird track that pleases just because.
Great albums are just like this, when you think you had enough surprises comes a track as “Winter of Wizards” and its flutes and change most of it. As I said before, “Come” is an album of dear surprises and textures that are not found easily. “Pieces of Midnight” is one of them as well with its acoustic intro that leads into a pungent guitar line.
“Come” is a highly recommended album if you want something more than meets the eye.

I’m just a lucky guy who has chosen metal to live with for a long time. Metal changed my life for good. It made me more confident and stronger. Metalheads are naturally far away from the mass mediocrity and don’t accept impostures from anybody else. Metal is more than music, it’s a life changing oportunity!
