Darktribe – Forgotten Reveries Review

Definitely Symphonic Power Metal bands are this year’s thing due to the countless number of bands that are adding more power to their music. I know as in all things on this sad and lonely and pathetic little planet this is a phase, but I have to stress that it is a remarkable phase. Darktribe with “Forgotten Reveries” added much more aggression to their Symphonic Metal while keeping the melody the subgenre is known for.

Forgotten Reveries” is a very varied album. While album first blood “Paradox” gave me that impression I said before from a facete of Darktribe, From Star To Dust gave me a completely different one as it added those electronic effects that Battle Beast and Metalite are famous for. It is interesting how the band manage very well those so far distinct sounds. Just after “From Star To Dust” comes “Kings In The Sand,” a track that relives the Symphonic Power Metal influence I was talking about. But I guess it is in “Mornings Of Fear” where the band exercises their better version of their music with grand guitars and very interesting keyboards that are sometimes in the background and sometimes in the lead with a very catchy melodic chorus. The power of the guitars is one of things that immeaditely called my attention. Talking about varying the music, grande finale “Son Of Illusion” commences as a ballad to cool off and change the spirit with some awesome vocal melodies and grand guitars, one of the band’s musical signatures. It’s ending is a kind of homage to Manowar’s ballads with the piano and the melodies. Well, at least the way I see it.

Here we have an album that tries to make a stand among its Symphonic Power Metal peers. The combination of strong guitars and compelling melodies is one of Darktribe‘s musical signatures. The other is to sucessfully deal with a more appealing to the masses facete using electronic effects and more melodic keyboards. It is the way opening track “Paradox” does with both. My guess is that this is the track that most represents the band. “Forgotten Reveries” is an album that will please both Power Metal fans and Symphonic Metal fans.
