Former SLAYER and current PHILM drummer Dave Lombardo says that he hasn’t been approached to join MEGADETH as the replacement for Shawn Drover.

Ever since Drover quit MEGADETH at the end of November, speculation has been rife about which drummer will succeed him in the Dave Mustaine-led group, with Lombardo‘s name topping some fans’ wish lists.

Asked by Brazil’s “Wikimetal” podcast if there has been talk between him and MEGADETH about him stepping in to replace Drover, Dave said: “No, there hasn’t been. Nobody’s approached me. Yeah, it’s all rumors.”

Drover quit MEGADETH on November 25, 2014 “to pursue [his] own musical interests.” His statement can be found at this location. Guitarist Chris Broderick announced his departure from MEGADETH a few hours later, saying that he was exiting the group “due to artistic and musical differences.”

Lombardo was effectively fired from SLAYER after sitting out the band’s Australian tour in February/March 2013 due to a contract dispute with the other members of the group. He has since been replaced by Paul Bostaph, who was previously SLAYER‘s drummer from 1992 until 2001 and recorded four albums with the band.

PHILM released its sophomore album, “Fire From The Evening Sun”, on September 16, 2014 (one day earlier internationally) via UDR. The band’s lineup is completed by guitarist/vocalist Gerry Paul Nestler (CIVIL DEFIANCE), and bassist Francisco “Pancho” Eduardo Tomaselli (WAR).
