DEFTONES frontman Chino Moreno had a brief onstage mishap during the band’s show at Spark Arena in Auckland, New Zealand, on Wednesday night, though it did little to slow the performance down.
The incident happened deep into the set, around the 15th song of a 19-track run, while the band were playing “Hole In The Earth,” the lead single from their 2006 album Saturday Night Wrist. In an ironic twist, Moreno slipped and fell right in the middle of the track—but recovered almost immediately, managing to keep the vocal line going without missing a beat.
Despite the stumble, the moment didn’t derail the show in any way. Moreno quickly got back on his feet and carried on with the same intensity that has long defined DEFTONES’ live performances. By the time the final section of the set rolled around, he was once again fully mobile and delivering a strong finish alongside the rest of the band.
This isn’t the first time the singer has dealt with onstage accidents. Over the years, Moreno has endured a few notable falls while performing, including a more serious incident in 2017 when a misstep off the stage led to a broken foot.
Fortunately, this latest slip appeared far less serious, leaving him with little more than a momentary scare. The band completed the Auckland show without further issues, closing out their Australasian tour leg on a solid note.
With the run now wrapped up, DEFTONES are set to take a short break before heading to Japan next week for a series of highly anticipated shows in East Asia.
Japan tour dates are as follows:
- May 18 – Tokyo, JPN – Tokyo Garden Theater
- May 19 – Osaka, JPN – Zepp Osaka Bayside
- May 20 – Nagoya, JPN – Comtec Portbase
