A band with a name Deliria sure gets more points with me. Even more when album warmer “Smoke Mirrors” starts so deceptive as it can be. First impression is we are talking about a Psychedelic Rock band. But this vanishes so soon as ice in a hot sun with a powerful Melodic Death Metal wrapping. After hearing all “Phantasm” with extreme care – another great tittle for an album – it seems to me this psychedelic slant is an important and vital part of the band’s music. There are signs everywhere in the album even in the faster and more furious songs as tittle track “Phantasm” with its initial guitars. Most fans won’t hear it, but it’s there. Deliria make a hell of a mix here with Death Metal and the psychedelic intent. The guitars – they again – in “Attic” showcases a piece of this mix.
Ok, we all know this sad and lonely and pathetic little planet has its share of Melodic Death Metal bands. So, each band we get there is the need of looking for something that makes the band stands out from the crowd. When I hear tracks as the aforementioned “Smoke Mirrors” and “Reckless,” just to cite a few from the album, I feel “Phantasm” has done its share. As I always say the devil is in the details and the details here show a band that is very competent in bringing some exquisite mood to their music. Pay attention to the vocals and instrumentals of “Covenant” feeling the guitars and the way vocalist Adam Rupp put his words. Pay also close attention to the bass lines and how they sound to be belong to another song but, how come, totally fit to the song.
“Phantasm” is an album to listen very carefully paying total attention to all details embedded, or sometimes hidden, in the songs. An album that transcends its genre bringing some influences not so common around Metal music. It’s the kind of album that makes we all proud of being a metalhead.
P.S. – I see in the press release we are talking about a Post-Black Metal band. Well, just change Melodic Death Metal for Post-Black Metal and we’re alright.
Deliria “Phantasm” will be released on May 03rd.

I’m just a lucky guy who has chosen metal to live with for a long time. Metal changed my life for good. It made me more confident and stronger. Metalheads are naturally far away from the mass mediocrity and don’t accept impostures from anybody else. Metal is more than music, it’s a life changing oportunity!
