Der Rote Milan – Schlund Review

It’s only here at Metal Addicts the Metal fan can find review of all subgenres of Metal music in a blink of an eye. From the most unearthely and ungodly Black Metal to the happiest party everyday Glam Metal. We are really proud of it. It means our appreciation and respect for Metal music.

Today we’ve got Der Rote Milan with “Schlund,” the beast awake from its four year hibernation with all the fury possible in only EP. Not we didn’t know what the band was capable of as we reviewed their sophomore album 2019’s “Moritat” with all the visceral and raw energy the band delivers. Musicwise, “Schlund” is a step ahead in terms of music writing and instrumentals. The songs here are more intricate and longer with lots of plot twists and tempo changes that begin with “Erloschen” and its dense mooding showing how the band has musically evolved in the years. Here with “Schlund” the band put aside a little their Old School Black Metal to update their music with more modern guitar approaches. It’s the following track “Der Keiler” that mixes both features being the band’s missing link with their past and future. Pure hate and wraith distilled to make blood jump from our ears. I guess here Der Rote Milan find their future. A killer combination. “Schwarze Winde” is moodier with that characteristic despair of modern Black Metal bands. Here the band showcases everything they’ve got in terms of musical production and prowness. The grand finale is “Der Herr der Schaben” with its initial drumming attack that evolves into a fast and furious Black Metal making us remember the good old times of the band. There is no second at all to breath. Just the most pure musical violence.

As I aforementioned, “Schlund” is a step ahead in terms of music writing and instrumentals. It’s an album to please all black metallers from the darkest and deepest depths of hell.

Der Rote Milan “Schlund” will be released on November 29th via Unholy Conspiracy Deathwork.
