According to a recent report from long-standing industry outlet Hits Daily Double, several factors contributed to the cancellation of the 2025 Sick New World festival. Filed under their rumor mill section, the report suggests that budgetary issues and overbooking were at the heart of the decision.
One key issue was the festival’s decision to book an excessive number of bands, straining its ability to turn a profit. Jeffrey Shuman, who had managed the festival since its inception, departed from Live Nation Entertainment earlier this year. In his absence, C3 Presents, a Live Nation partner, took over booking responsibilities. The company reportedly trimmed the lineup just before the announcement, with some artists allegedly unaware of their removal.
The high costs of production also played a significant role. METALLICA and LINKIN PARK were reportedly guaranteed $5 million each, making the lineup particularly expensive.
Adding to the challenges, ticket sales were slower than expected. Since the October 15th lineup announcement, only a third of the 60,000 available tickets at Las Vegas Festival Grounds had been sold, a stark contrast to the sold-out events of previous years. Ticket prices may have also deterred fans, with general admission starting around $400 and VIP packages reaching up to $1,873.
Despite the cancellation, Hits Daily Double reports that Live Nation will still owe the booked artists a portion of their guarantees.
On November 29, Sick New World organizers issued the following statement regarding the festival cancellation: “Despite our best efforts, we’ve encountered unforeseen circumstances that we are unable to overcome for next year’s show. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the dedicated SNW fans who had made plans to join us for another cultural celebration of hard rock, goth, alternative and heavy music. Please stay tuned for further and future information regarding Sick New World.
“Tickets purchased directly from Font Gate Tickets will be automatically refunded to the original method of payment in as little as 30 days.”
