Dolch – III – Songs Of Happiness, Words Of Praise

I must confess that the first time I put Dolch on to listen, I gave in the first minutes. I wasn’t really in the mood for the music Dolch have to offer. Not that time. But I promise myself when I got this job that I would review any band that my partners sent me. And here I go again.

At first I thought Dolch were one eletronic, industrail, alternative, or any other kind of those modern labels to our beloved Metal. But nah. Dolch’s music is kind of depressive Metal that some folks are doing everywhere. As I get depressed a lot, I king of liked the style of Dolch.

The name of this effort, “III – Songs Of Happiness, Words Of Praise,” is a bucketful of sarcasm. And  sarcasm and irony are my thing. Dolch are a band of an acid irony. “III – Songs Of Happiness, Words Of Praise” is an album for whom thinks life sucks, for whose relationships suck, for whom lives in a tacky city and is full of it. “III – Songs Of Happiness, Words Of Praise” is the soundtrack for the loosers as you and me. But I guess Dolch with “III – Songs Of Happiness, Words Of Praise” are right. There’s no happiness in this sad and lonely world.

Everything in this effort is weird. The art cover, the names of the songs – one song is simply named “Track Six” -, the songs, the instrumental – or what else we can call it. But the weirdest are the songs. I guess the most similar band that I’ve heard is Bauhaus, but I’m not sure if it is a valid comparison. Dolch are more eletronic, more sonic effects, a female voice that seems to be singing for no one. In fact, in songs like “100,000 Ways,” it’s hard to distinguish the instruments amongst all the effects.

Dolch are avant guarde Metal. And as everything that is ahead of its time, Dolch are hard to get. It’s not easy to listen to “III – Songs Of Happiness, Words Of Praise.” So prepare your spirit.
