Doldrey – Only Death Is Eternal Review

Sometimes life is so simple, straight ahead, and succint. If I tell you, my child of the night, that this EP tittle “Only Death Is Eternal” means so much to a Metal fan I won’t be lying. The kind of tittle that holds a complete idea. But I have to say that besides Death Metal music is eternal as well. No shadows of doubt in it. A perfect match with the minimalist, but effective mood of the music showcased with the five tracks of the EP.

“Only Death Is Eternal” commences with the incendiary “Moral Decay” whose tittle tells a lot as well to a Metal fan. The best thing of the album is that it captures and maintains the same all hell’s breaking loose attitude of 2022’s “Celestial Deconstruction.” The same straight ahead vibe sounding as a direct punch in the face. This snooze, you lose attitude makes the album something to cherish. I like the urgency of tracks like this one. “Moral Decay” blends successfully the urgency of early Death Metal with the efficiency of Modern Death Metal instrumentals which, by the way, is one of the milestones of the album and Doldrey. This efficient combination proves to be Doldrey’s most shinning mark. Venom are one of the bands that immediately comes to my mind when I put album tittle track “Only Death Is Eternal” to play. The same urgency and instrumental efficiency. One thing that called my eye here and with the previous album is the minimal use of lead guitars. A thing that adds much more violence to the band’s melting pot. It makes the already hot pot even hotter when combined with the fast and simple guitar riffing of “All Is Hell,” another track with a tittle that says a lot to Metal music fans. Things change a little with “Societal Machine” and its ethereal and moody intro that is soon perverted with a cadenced sequence of guitar chords. “Societal Machine” contrasts with all the other tracks of the album for being more complex and full of changes in tempo and cadence.

“Only Death Is Eternal” is an album for the fans of the fast and the urgent. That is, most metallers in this sad and lonely and pathetic little planet.

Doldrey “Only Death Is Eternal” will be released on August 02nd via Pulverised Records.
