Dream Evil – Metal Gods Review

My impression is that Metal music is the musical genre that promotes, and honors, itself the most. There are zillions of songs that talks about Metal music and all its symbols – fans as well. I dare to say at least each band has ever honored Metal music, and its fans, in a song, in an album cover, in a tour, in a photo or wherever. It’s impossible to name them all. And it couldn’t be different because Metal music has been fighting its place under the dark side of the Moon since the beginning of times. For instance, if memory serves me right, Gojira were the first Metal band that played on a world class sports even as the Olympic Games. But it doesn’t matter at all, Metal music is stronger and it’s alive – or undead, I guess undead fits better. We have this album “Metal Gods” as a great exemple of it. An album that celebrates the dark beauty of Metal music and our burning passion for it.

“Metal Gods” commences with warmer track, and tittle track “Metal Gods” which goes through the memory of the bands that influenced Metal music the most. Of course, from Dream Evil’s point of view. Interestingly, the cites straight ahead some bands mostly with a glimpse remembrance of them all plus the band’s impression of them all. An instant anthem. There is no way of nt getting emotioned with the song. Even the tougher metalhead on the face of this sad and lonely and pathetic little planet will burst into tears listening to it. I won’t say a word about it… By the way, Dream Evil are known for being the voice of Metal music as they have been saluting our genre for decades. Here the band mixes its known pungent melody with harder riffing creating an emotional atmosphere that is the stapler of the band.

“Metal Gods” is a passionate album in the greater good sense of the term. It’s a mix of 1990’s Power Metal with Melodic Metal in all senses, a thing that “The Tyrant Dies at Dawn” showcases pretty well. Dream Evil manage great to blend sensitive melody with the hard pounding. For the ones not familiar with the band, when I listen to Dream Evil there is an immediate image of Hammerfall with more melodies. Something pretty present with “Lightning Strikes” and its mooding. The eighties Metal music is also present in tracks as “Fight in the Night” and its cadenced guitar riffing and its embedded war cry crying out loud to any metalhead listen. That’s exactly what “Metal Gods” is, a cry out loud to any metalhead listen.

Dream Evil “Metal Gods” will be released on July 26th via Century Media Records.
