Boston punk band DROPKICK MURPHYS have released a newly updated version of their 2005 song “Citizen C.I.A.” titled “Citizen I.C.E.”, now available on digital platforms. The track features guest vocals from hardcore group HAYWIRE and previews the bands’ upcoming split EP New England Forever with HAYWIRE, scheduled to be released later this spring.
The reimagined single arrives amid heightened national attention on recent events in Minneapolis related to federal immigration enforcement, where two U.S. citizens, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, were killed in separate encounters involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers.
In the band’s statement accompanying the release, DROPKICK MURPHYS address the broader context that informed the song’s updated message: “As Americans are being executed in the street, we feel it is our duty to raise consciousness, and be one of the voices speaking against this nightmare. CITIZEN I.C.E. is FOR THE PEOPLE. Stand strong against tyranny. Use it however you want. In Solidarity, with Love, DROPKICK MURPHYS”
Lyrically, the track incorporates pointed language aimed at its subject matter, including a chorus that calls out the character and decisions of the officers involved.
“Citizen I.C.E.” appears on the upcoming New England Forever EP, which will be offered in physical form on 12‑inch vinyl during the band’s For The People…In the Pit St. Patrick’s Day Tour, beginning February 9. The digital release of the full EP is expected on March 17.
