Evermore – Mournbraid Review

We had the pleasure of reviewing Evermore’s 2023’s sophomore In Memoriam when we realized how present the influence of Helloween – a band I like very much – still marks many bands that are celebrating the good old roots of the subgenre. It is fact that Power Metal is one of the most popular Heavy Metal subgenres from the quantity and quality of the bands I have been receiving here. I know at times I am so hard with Power Metal releases, but that is so because I like it very much. Tough love I guess is the right term for it.

Well, I have to say there are no significant differences from In Memoriam to “Mournbraid” in the first place. To some it might mean a bad thing, but, in fact, I guess it might not because it proves the band has strong character. The kind of character that insists on what it is right, not for what other people think it is right. This kind of reasoning in general takes bands to a better place in Metal music’s realm. Life has not been exactly easy for bands these days. The siren song is everywhere compeling bands to be on the change for change’s sake scheme. Alright, then, even though, there are some things that immeadiately jumps to the eye of the fan. First of them is that the band does not have a bassist. Their oficial line-up does not include one at least. I do not know if they include one for live shows or even if the band performs live shows. There are many bands these days that are only studio projects. Second, I love bands that declare their love for Metal music as the band does with “Armored Will.

Albums like “Mournbraid” tend to hide their gems if the fan does not pay close attention as it could have happened with album tittle “Mournbraid,” a great piece of Metal music with its intensity and complex instrumentals. There also a fine piece of emotion with “Old Man’s Tale” whose vocals tell exactly how vocalist Johan Haraldsson’s voice impresses. The gentle and sweet instrumentals complete the emotional package. So, I invite my dear children of the night to pay close attention to this album. It deserves much better.
