Sad news this weekend as current GORGOROTH and former OBITUARY bassist Frank Watkins is dead at the age of 47. He had been battling cancer and reportedly passed away Sunday morning (Oct.18).
Watkins left OBITUARY in 2010 in a bitter way and was eventually replaced by Terry Butler. In 2007, Watkins was invited to join Norwegian black metal band GORGOROTH. He assumed the name Bøddel, which means “Executioner” in English. While playing with GORGOROTH, he appeared on 2009’s Quantos Possunt ad Satanitatem Trahunt album and this year’s Instinctus Bestialis.
OBITUARY issued the statement “Just got the very sad news that Frank passed away this morning. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.” GORGOROTH also stated “Rest in peace Frank Watkins (19.02.1968-18.10.2015). He will be missed.”
