FOO FIGHTERS are back with a brand-new track, “Today’s Song,” marking their first new release since 2023’s But Here We Are. Arriving just in time for the 30th anniversary of their self-titled debut — which dropped on July 4, 1995 — the new single adds to the band’s ongoing #FF30 celebration, which recently included a unique cover of MINOR THREAT featuring vocals recorded this year over a 1995 instrumental.
“Today’s Song” channels Foo Fighters’ signature emotional power, with Dave Grohl leaning into anthemic balladry that blends resilience, loss, and catharsis.
Alongside the release, Grohl shared a deeply personal message reflecting on the band’s journey over three decades. He thanked former members William Goldsmith, Franz Stahl, and Josh Freese for their contributions, and paid an especially touching tribute to the late Taylor Hawkins:
“Over the years, we’ve had moments of unbridled joy, and moments of devastating heartbreak,” Grohl said. “Moments of beautiful victory, and moments of painful defeat. We have mended broken bones and broken hearts. But we have followed this road together, with each other, for each other, no matter what. Because in life, you just can’t go it alone.
“It should go without saying that without the boundless energy of William Goldsmith, the seasoned wisdom of Franz Stahl, and the thunderous wizardry of Josh Freese, this story would be incomplete, so we extend our heartfelt gratitude for the time, music, and memories that we shared with each of them over the years. Thank you, gentlemen.
“And… Taylor. Your name is spoken every day, sometimes with tears, sometimes with a smile, but you are still in everything we do, everywhere we go, forever. The enormity of your beautiful soul is only rivaled by the infinite longing we feel in your absence. We all miss you beyond words. FOO FIGHTERS will forever include Taylor Hawkins in every note that we play, until we do finally reach our destination.”
The current FOO FIGHTERS lineup features Grohl, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett, and Rami Jaffee. However, the band has yet to announce a replacement behind the kit for Freese, who was recently let go ahead of their fall tour dates.
Looking ahead, FOO FIGHTERS have also announced a series of Asian tour dates for later this year, including:
- October 2 – Jakarta, Indonesia – Carnaval Ancol
- October 4 – Singapore – Singapore Grand Prix (Marina Bay)
- October 7 – Tokyo, Japan – Saitama Super Arena
- October 10 – Osaka, Japan – Glion Arena Kobe
