Full House Brew Crew – Glasgow Grin Review

The terms heavy and fast are for most Metal music fans have the same musical meaning, however, I must say they are not exact synonyms. There bands that do not play fast, as Doom Metal bands, that are heavier than hell. To be heavy does not have any relation with being fast. Of course, I believe faster songs attract more Metal music fans. If you want to know a real heavy band and album try this Full House Brew Crew with “Glasgow Grin,” a heavier than hell album. Even though I do not believe the horned one listens to Metal music…

From the beginning with title track “Glasgow Grin” this album is a lesson of how playing hard and heavy without abusing of the speed. By the way, there is no fast track in the album. An album deserves to be reviewed part by part. First of all, the kind of Metal music “Glasgow Grin” delivers is very unique these days as Groove Metal got kind of scarce and rare. It was very common – well, to be frank, not really common – in the 1990s with bands as Biohazard and many others. I’ll admit this is the kind of Metal that pleases me very much. Second of all, this kind of Metal is really heavy. The cadenced guitars with few notes give the music a heavyness that it is difficult to get over. Add to that the harsh Vagelis Karzis vocals, an element that gives the music that especial touch that makes it very unique. Third, the guitars are amazing. Their precision with very few notes is really something that it i not done anymore these days. Guitarists tend to value gazillions of notes nowadays. The fact of using few notes allow us to realize the complexity of the bass lines and how they fill in the blanks the guitars leave. Add to that the awesome drumming that fills the blanks with a very complex bass druming as in Free Fall. Finally, Full House Brew Crew is a great band name. You all know I appreciate some band’s names.

There is only problem with this kind of music that is its lack of melody. There are tracks as “Rain” where Full House Brew Crew gives large notes of melody in the guitars, but thy are not so common. The intense, and relentless, pounding sometimes gives the impression that songs are infinite. This makes it one of the better tracks of the album. A little bit of melody is mandatory, if you know what I mean.

If my dear child of the night pays close attention, bands tend to put into their lyrics their musical personality. I mean, songs do tell a lot about the band. The title of a song as “From The Gutter” totally reflects musically Full House Brew Crew‘s personality. Right to it, no more, no less as it is the band’s music.
