Heads for the Dead – Never Ending Night of Terror Review

The cinematic CD cover is the first thing that attracts the fan’s attention mostly because it reminds a very famous and known horror movie. As I said in the previous reviews, I admire Heads for the Dead’s ability to reinvent themselves. This upcoming release “Never Ending Night of Terror” let things clear about the horror verve the band has always portraited. Now, from head to toe, the cinematic horror is present combined with the usual straight-ahead approach to the music with the usual brilliant musicianship.

Never Ending Night of Terror” commences with the blast of “The Vastness Of Time,” a track that defies the limits and boundaries of time with one of the fastest guitar riffs I have heard in a while. Pure Old School Death Metal with few blast beats, but full of timeless speed. The track blends very well the blasting of the drums with the melody of the lead guitars. “Death Mask” lets the speed skip a little and delivers a more balanced grip with some cinematic effects giving the track the same cinematic effect that portraits the album. As it is usual for Heads for the Dead’s albums, the guitars’ interventions are a game changer. The following track “Phantasmagoria” does justice to its title. The track proves it is possible to make a great blend of cinemtaic features with the punch required for Death Metal and still have a great time. The band did a phenomenal job here putting together Death Metal punch and force with the moody effects of cinema. The fast riffs the band built here work so fine with the atmosphere created. The moody album title track “Never Ending Night Of Terror” delivers is something to be reminded for a long time specially for one that loves this kind of contrasts as I do.

I believe Heads for the Dead worked very hard to write an album with so many influences as “Never Ending Night Of Terror.” It is clear to me the band did all possible to take its music to a higher level of musicianship and music writing as this album is very, but very different from its predecessors. I guess that “Give Me Life” is the track that represents the best the mix the band did in the album with fast as hell guitar interventions that turn out to be melodic at some point in time, a drumming that keeps the pace and joins the nightmare of following the speed. “Never Ending Night Of Terror” would be a great Speed Metal album except for the vocals. Well, to some extent, considering only the speed of the instruments, it is.
