Hopescure – Nostalgia, Pt 1

I guess that the most chalenge an Art Rock has these days is to maintain their identity as Prog Rock and not to have the temptation of turning too commercial. I know Metal bands have fallen into this trap as well, but nowadays Prog Rock bands have the bigger tendency. Of course it’s the way I see it. However, Prog Rock bands can always try the blend classical music works too. The problem is that some bands opt to have more classical features than rock or the otherwise. Just a fact. Hopescure in “Nostalgia, Pt 1” opted for having both. Just to be sure. There are tracks that push the boundaries of the commercial stuff and get very near; other push the boundaries of the classical stuff and do the right thing from where I’m standing. “Pain” exemplifies the first, with its slow and melodic mood with a vocalist almost whispering; “Love Pt 1” the second with its sweet piano and classical drive. Well, to me, better too classical than too commercial, if you ask me.

As their peers “Nostalgia, Pt 1” has awesome instrumental moments, the thing is that they are guitar related and not keyboards driven. It shows a band with the wish of standing out of the crowd, what is satisfactory. It’s a fact that Hopescure don’t read by the book. On the other hand, there are tracks that push a little harder on the heavyness with one step near the Metal as “Mislead” and opening track “Liar” whose drive sounds as if it were a Symphonic Metal track. Just between you and me, I guess will please a lot Symphonic metallers. If you allow me, go straight ahead to the eighth track “Anger” and feel the mood. Isn’t it Symphonic? What about the following, but short “Dreaming” and its piano? well, as I said, better too classical than too commercial.

Hopescure “Nostalgia, Pt 1”  was sent on the eleventh hour, but that’s okay, the band paid itself off.
