IRON MAIDEN has shared a heartfelt recap of drummer Nicko McBrain‘s final concert, which took place on December 7 in São Paulo. You can watch the video below.
Although he is stepping away from touring, McBrain stated that he will stay closely tied to IRON MAIDEN, actively participating in “a variety of projects” with the band while also dedicating time to personal pursuits and his existing businesses.
In January 2023, Nicko McBrain suffered a stroke at his home in Boca Raton, leaving him partially paralyzed. When he publicly revealed his stroke in August 2023, he shared that the incident had left him paralyzed on one side of his body and deeply concerned that his career with IRON MAIDEN might be over.
Additionally, four years ago, McBrain was diagnosed with stage 1 laryngeal cancer. While he briefly discussed the diagnosis in a 2021 interview, he otherwise kept it private. The cancer was discovered during an endoscopy at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, part of the University of Miami Health System and the Miller School of Medicine. Just a week after the diagnosis, McBrain underwent surgery to remove the cancer and now undergoes regular check-ups to ensure it has not returned.
IRON MAIDEN will hit the road again in 2025 with the “Run For Your Lives” world tour, set to kick off in May.
Simon Dawson, a former session drummer and longtime bandmate of MAIDEN bassist Steve Harris in British Lion, will take over as Nicko McBrain‘s replacement.
