The long-awaited Ozzy Osbourne and Sharon Osbourne biopic is still in active development, with Ozzy’s son Jack Osbourne offering a fresh update on its progress and a realistic timeframe for its release.
During a May 12 livestream on his YouTube channel, Jack was asked by a viewer for news on the film, which has been in various stages of development for years. According to Jack, the project is very much alive and moving forward, even if fans may need to remain patient.
“I can tell you this: we are moving ahead. I was on calls today about it. The script is right there. We are good. This movie will absolutely happen,” he said (as transcribed by Blabbermouth). “Realistically — I mean, look, we’re already halfway through ’26 — it probably won’t come out until ’28. But you never know. But, yeah, we’re full steam ahead. We’re about to start going out and getting a director attached. So, fingers crossed. I’m really excited. It’s, yeah, very much been a labor of love, of course. But, yeah, I’m excited — I’m excited for everyone to see this film.”
Earlier this year, Jack had already hinted that the project was moving into what he described as “the next phase of development” during an appearance on the SiriusXM show Influenced, hosted by Billy Morrison. At that time, he explained that the long-gestating film was now pushing ahead after years in development.
“We are in full steam in the next phase of development with this movie. That’s an acted movie that we’ve been developing with Sony studios for, like, six years already,” Jack said.
He also revealed that major creative decisions have already been made, including casting direction and script revisions, though he remained tight-lipped about who will play his father on screen.
“We have our decided pick, and I can’t say anything [yet], but it’s a phenomenal, phenomenal actor. We have a director attached, and we’re doing a rewrite right now.”
Morrison suggested during the conversation that Ozzy himself would have been eager to see the film completed, a sentiment Jack agreed with wholeheartedly.
“Oh, he would,” he said. “And all he kept saying — I’d give him updates: ‘Oh, we met with this guy’, and ‘this is happening’. And he just would go, ‘I don’t give a s**t. Just tell me when it’s out so I can go see it.’”
The project, first reported by Variety in October 2021, is a collaboration between Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne and Sony Pictures, alongside Polygram Entertainment. The biopic will center on the love story between the BLACK SABBATH frontman and his wife and manager. Lee Hall, known for scripting Rocketman, is handling the screenplay.
The film is being produced by Sharon and her children Jack and Aimée Osbourne through Osbourne Media—the company behind God Bless Ozzy Osbourne on Showtime and Biography: The Nine Lives Of Ozzy Osbourne on A&E—alongside Michele Anthony and David Blackman for Polygram Entertainment. Andrea Giannetti is overseeing development for Sony.
Ozzy Osbourne passed away on July 22, 2025, from a heart attack, according to his death certificate, which also noted coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease.
