At the NAMM convention in Anaheim, California, last month, Jeff Loomis discussed the return of his longtime band, NEVERMORE, with Chelsea from Metal Magnitude.
On December 27, both Loomis and drummer Van Williams shared a one-minute teaser video featuring iconic NEVERMORE imagery, possible silhouettes of the duo, and accompanying text: “Resurrecting The Dream.” The teaser ends with the NEVERMORE logo along with the line “A New Chapter Rises” and the year “2025”. Bassist Jim Sheppard isn’t involved with the reunion.
“ Yeah, there’s some incredible stuff coming up,” Loomis said (as transcribed by Blabbermouth). “I’ve had a tremendous last 10 years with the band ARCH ENEMY. I’ve been a part of their band, and I left the band about a year ago because I wanted to kind of be behind the driver’s wheel of my own music again. So I’m reforming my old band called NEVERMORE. And that was a very big part of my life for a long time. And as we all know, the [NEVERMORE] singer Warrel Dane passed away about five years ago. So we’re on the search right now for a new vocalist and bass player. And we’re gonna come back, and we’re gonna revamp the band, and it’s gonna be bigger and better than it ever was. So that’s the plans for 2025.”
NEVERMORE disbanded in 2011 when guitarist Jeff Loomis and drummer Van Williams parted ways with the band, citing personal differences with vocalist Warrel Dane and bassist Jim Sheppard. In a later interview, Dane referred to NEVERMORE as “the greatest band that alcohol ever ruined.”
Tragically, Dane passed away in December 2017 at the age of 56 while recording his solo album, Shadow Work, in São Paulo, Brazil. Reports indicate he suffered a heart attack during the night and could not be revived.”
