JOSH FREESE To Rejoin WEEZER For Upcoming South American Tour

Josh Freese 2024 Interview

Josh Freese is heading back behind the kit with WEEZER, marking a reunion that fans of both acts will be thrilled to see. The veteran drummer confirmed via Instagram that he’ll join the band for their upcoming South American tour, filling in while founding drummer Patrick Wilson shifts to guitar duties.

“Getting ready to head down to South America with some old friends,” Freese wrote alongside a photo of a drum kit emblazoned with WEEZER’s iconic logo. He doubled down in his Stories, adding that he’s “looking forward to South America with Weezer coming up.”

Freese previously toured with WEEZER from 2007 to 2012, and his return was quietly teased by his brother, Jason Freese, who hinted that Josh would step in to support the lineup shuffle.

WEEZER’s South American trek kicks off November 2nd in São Paulo, with additional stops in Buenos Aires and Santiago. The band will then head north for festival appearances in Mexico before jetting off to Australia for more shows.

Freese, meanwhile, is making the most of his downtime before rejoining NINE INCH NAILS for their North American tour in early 2026. It’s been a whirlwind year for the drummer, who parted ways with FOO FIGHTERS in May before returning to NIN for their recent tour dates, including a standout show in Brooklyn this September.
