It’s been nine years that I am writing reviews here and I still get surprised by some of the sonancies bands deliver today. If someone you know says I know all Metal bands, believe me, there must be something wrong. Do you know why? Because it is impossible. The first thing that jumps to the eye is that Kaunis Kuolematon’s deal is to vary a lot the pace, cadence and tempo of all tracks. The second is that vocals are shared by two vocalists; Olli Suvanto for the gutural and harsher and Mikko Heikkilä for the clean ones. One may denote that the need of a second vocalist only for the clean parts means they are more complex and sophisticated. That is true here.
“Kun Valo Minussa Kuoli” commences with “Kaiku,” a track that goes in a crescendo starting with a guitar strumming and slowly other intruments go taking part of the song. It is a very trick many bands used before, but the outcome is always fantastic. It is fair to say that Kaunis Kuolematon’s sonancy is very near of what I understand as Post-Metal as “Kun Kyynelistä Muodostuu Meri” denotes more clearly, atrack with shoegazed slow pace with lots of keyboards, the slow guitars and very melodic vocals that share the stage lights with a harsher one. It is interesting how “Rauniot” polishes even more the vocals, as I said before, with lots of shifts in technique varying the lows and the highs. Pay attention on how the guitars vary techniques as well. With “Maailman Ainut Ihminen“ the piano takes the stage lights giving the song a more melodic verve.
Well, sometimes I found “Kun Valo Minussa Kuoli” too melodic, however, the sophistication of the melodies and structures of the songs got me by the heart. It is an album to share with someone you like and explore the limits of the darkest of the nights, if you know what I mean.
Kaunis Kuolematon “Kun Valo Minussa Kuoli” was released on November 28th via Noble Demon.

I’m just a lucky guy who has chosen metal to live with for a long time. Metal changed my life for good. It made me more confident and stronger. Metalheads are naturally far away from the mass mediocrity and don’t accept impostures from anybody else. Metal is more than music, it’s a life changing oportunity!
