In a recent social media update posted on May 18th, guitarist Kevin Quirion announced his departure from Florida death metal legends DEICIDE, marking the end of his 15-year tenure with the band.
Quirion shared that he decided to leave last month, citing his desire to step back from the rigors of touring and to spend more time with his family. His statement also revealed that while he’s stepping away from the band, he isn’t leaving music altogether. He plans to continue writing songs, collaborating with Derek Roddy and Sean Baxter under their old moniker, COUNCIL OF THE FALLEN. According to Quirion, these releases will be informal EPs with no label involvement or live shows—just music for the love of it.
Quirion’s departure comes in the wake of DEICIDE’s recent withdrawal from the EXODUS tour, which was scheduled to kick off last month. Initially, the band cited “scheduling conflicts” as the reason for their exit but later retracted the statement, leaving fans puzzled. With this new development, speculation naturally arises about whether Quirion’s departure and the canceled tour are connected.
His entire statement reads:
So after 15 years I decided to leave the band last month. Mainly I’m just done with touring and would like to spend the extra time with my family. I will still be writing songs and have already sent some to Derek Roddy and Sean Baxter to release under the Council Of The Fallen name. There will be no labels or shows, just putting out EPs whenever we feel like it. It was nice meeting a bunch of fans, bands, promoters etc and I wish everyone the best. Got to go now. Look for a job and Roblox with my son……
Despite these changes, DEICIDE is pushing forward. The band recently announced a Latin American tour alongside BEHEMOTH, set for Fall 2025. It remains to be seen how this lineup change will affect the band’s live performances and future plans.
Quirion first joined DEICIDE in 2008 and contributed to several of the band’s most recent albums, including In the Minds of Evil (2013), Overtures of Blasphemy (2018), and their latest release, Banished by Sin (2024). His technical prowess and stage presence have been a key part of DEICIDE‘s evolving sound over the past decade and a half.
