LADY GAGA On METALLICA: ‘Those Guys Play Better Than They’ve Ever Played In Their Whole Lives’

Lady Gaga will join METALLICA onstage at the Grammys this Sunday. On Monday, a Gaga fan site tweeted a snippet of a commercial clip with the announcement. It’s unclear which song METALLICA will play at the event, which will air live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 12 at 8:00 p.m. ET on CBS.

Gaga told Apple Music‘s Zane Lowe (transcribed by Blabbermouth.net) that the idea for the pairing came about when she “was at [actor] Bradley‘s [Cooper] house with Lars [Ulrich, METALLICA drummer], and we were just, like, hanging out…” She went on to call Ulrich “amazing,” before adding: “I’ve gotta tell you something: I went to see [METALLICA] live. I mean, I’ve seen them a couple of times live, but I saw them live recently, and we were watching the show and I’ll tell you something, those guys play better than they’ve ever played in their whole lives.”

METALLICA previously promised “something very unique and special” for its performance at this year’s Grammy Awards, where the band is up for a Grammy in the “Best Rock Song” category for the track “Hardwired”, from METALLICA‘s latest album, “Hardwired… To Self-Destruct”.

METALLICA‘s latest album, Hardwired… to Self-Destruct was released as a double album on November 18, 2016 by their vanity record label Blackened Recordings. It is their first studio album in eight years following Death Magnetic (2008), marking the longest gap between two studio albums in the band’s career. It is also their first studio album not to feature songwriting contributions from Kirk Hammett since he joined the band in 1983, and their first studio album released through Blackened.
