LIMP BIZKIT guitarist Wes Borland went all-in on Friday night (June 27) at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, Colorado, by dressing up as a skull-faced version of 1980s James Hetfield for the band’s entire 10-song set. Decked out in a vintage “Metal Up Your A**” T-shirt, white high-tops, and grim face paint, Borland paid homage to the METALLICA frontman in theatrical style—much to the delight of fans in attendance.
The Denver show marked the final stop for LIMP BIZKIT on METALLICA’s massive “M72” world tour, which kicked off back in April 2023 in Amsterdam. Fred Durst and company shared the support slot with ICE NINE KILLS across several cities, including Toronto, Nashville, Philadelphia, Tampa, Santa Clara, and finally Denver.
Borland’s nod to Hetfield comes just months after he posted a reinterpretation of METALLICA’s instrumental “Orion” on Instagram in April. In the caption, he wrote that he was “[h]orsing around and loopidy loopin” with the classic track at home.
And this isn’t the first time LIMP BIZKIT has tipped their hat to the metal giants. During the 2003 “mtvICON: Metallica” special, the band delivered a live cover of “Welcome Home (Sanitarium),” showcasing their respect for METALLICA’s legacy.
