SLIPKNOT’s ‘Look Outside Your Window’ Finally Gets Global Release Date

The long-awaited global release date for Look Outside Your Window has finally been confirmed.

Originally issued in a limited vinyl edition for Record Store Day last month, the long-shelved project will now receive a full worldwide release on June 12, making it accessible to a much wider audience after years of near-mythical status among fans.

While often associated with SLIPKNOT due to the lineup involved, Look Outside Your Window is not a traditional SLIPKNOT album. Instead, it is an experimental record created by four members of the band during downtime from the sessions for 2008’s All Hope Is Gone. The project was shaped by Shawn “Clown” Crahan, Corey Taylor, Jim Root, and Sid Wilson, who deliberately stepped outside the aggressive and structured sound of SLIPKNOT to explore something more atmospheric, psychedelic, and free-form.

The idea behind the sessions was rooted in creative freedom rather than band identity. Shawn Crahan first spoke publicly about the project in 2018, describing it as a space where the musicians could experiment without pressure, expectations, or any obligation to fit the SLIPKNOT sound.

Crahan, Taylor, Root, and Wilson were responsible for writing and recording the material, which developed into a collection that stands apart from their main catalog both in tone and approach.

The album will be released in multiple physical formats, including several limited-edition vinyl pressings: Blue Transparent Leaf-Filled LP (limited to 250), Clear Purple LP (500), Bubblegum Pink LP (1000), Silver Nugget LP (Revolver exclusive, 500), Golden Pearl LP (Hot Topic exclusive, 750), along with an Eco Black LP and Digipak CD edition.

One of the more notable contributions on the record comes from Cristina Scabbia, who appears on “Christina” and “Is Real.”

Speaking to Rolling Stone last month, Crahan explained that Scabbia’s past relationship with Root — which lasted from 2004 to 2017 — played a key role in her involvement on the project.

Jim and she were dating,” Crahan said. “She’s a talented artist, and she was up in the house. I had to go to Jim, like, ‘Hey, what do you think about getting Cristina on?’ And he said, ‘Absolutely.’”

Crahan went on to describe how he specifically shaped her contribution, even asking her to write original material for the recording.

“The first thing I did was make her write a poem, a letter of intent in Italian. I told her to make it about batteries that are dying that cannot be recharged,” he said. “And she’s like, ‘OK.’ I have the piece of paper in Italian, and she did her best to read it to me, but I’ve never read it since then or memorized it. I just like to hear it the way it is. Jim and I were producing her, really making her get conviction. By the end, you could just feel it.”

He also recalled a standout studio moment involving SLIPKNOT frontman Corey Taylor, who was surprised by Scabbia’s vocal performance on “Is Real.”

“He had already sung on the song,” Crahan says. “So he thinks she’s just doing the poem, but then she busts into that vocal, singing, going for it. I just remember Corey going back a little bit and he goes, ‘OK.’ He loved it, but it really surprised him in a good way.”
