That’s the way I want my Metal!
If someone asked me If I ever imagined a band with this kind of sound I would say a big round never. The combinations Lord Goblin made here are really unearthly. The band does a very unusual trip to the past and back to the future at the same time. Their music has features of the 1970’s early Heavy Metal mixed with the avant-garde techniques extreme Metal bands use. It’s as if Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, and Extreme Metal were mixed all together and the outcome is one of the most astonishing things I have ever heard here in a while. It’s not only that, it is possible to add some features in the mix as some Doom Metal plus the epic and grand verve the band showcases. Just take a look at “Freedom Rider” to get what I mean. The mix is there for you to see.
Well, this isn’t exactly a coincidence if we think on whom brought the band up. As the press release says it was the vocals of Lord Goblin with the bass guitar of Antares that teamed up, bonding over their mutual love for classic Heavy Metal and the darker vibes of old school Black Metal and Epic Metal. Inspired by acts like Primordial, Doomsword, and Immortal, they set out to forge their own sound, and voilà, Lord Goblin are here to stay.
From the start with album start kicker “Northern Skyline” my dear children of the night might notice the band is really different. The instrumentals and moods are pure modern Extreme Metal, however vocals are more connect to Doom Metal. “The Wanderer” changes the game a little being more connected to NWOBHM. All the attention goes to the drums solo track “Thunderous Smite,” a track that relives a tradition of Rock and Metal to give space to their instrumentists to perform and show all their prowness. In fact, “Thunderous Smite” acts as a bridge to “Light of a Black Sun, Pt. 1” and “Light of a Black Sun, Pt. 2” the tracks the really give “Lord Goblin” its mix with Extreme Metal. It’s possible to say “Light of a Black Sun, Pt. 2” adds some more ingredients to the soup the band is cooking. Most of the time the bass and the guitars sound a bit as Manowar. I guess this was really intentional. Add to that the incredible 1970’s keyboards. That’s what I call an album.

I’m just a lucky guy who has chosen metal to live with for a long time. Metal changed my life for good. It made me more confident and stronger. Metalheads are naturally far away from the mass mediocrity and don’t accept impostures from anybody else. Metal is more than music, it’s a life changing oportunity!
