The announcement comes just months after MEGADETH confirmed plans to wind down their career with a final studio album and an extensive farewell tour. “There’s so many musicians that have come to the end of their career, whether accidental or intentional,” Dave Mustaine wrote online. “Most of them don’t get to go out on their own terms on top, and that’s where I’m at in my life right now.”
MEGADETH’s upcoming and final studio album — simply titled Megadeth — arrives January 23, 2026 via Mustaine’s Tradecraft imprint under Frontiers Label Group’s new BLKIIBLK label.
Despite signaling the beginning of the end, fans will still have several years to catch the band on the road. Speaking with Kerrang!, Mustaine noted that the farewell touring cycle could span “another three to five years.”
Mustaine also reflected on the passing years, acknowledging that he’ll be nearing a major personal milestone by the time the farewell run is complete. “If we’re going to be doing it for that long then, s**t, I’ll be looking at the birthday I don’t even want to think about,” he added.
