The countdown to the end of an era has officially begun. MEGADETH have announced the first headlining leg of their massive 2026 Global Farewell Tour, marking the beginning of what will be the band’s final run around the world.
The thrash pioneers will launch their South American farewell leg on April 23 in Lima, Peru, before storming through major cities including Bogota, Buenos Aires, São Paulo, and Santiago, and closing out with a trio of arena shows in Mexico. Tickets go on sale this November, with early access available to members of the Cyber Army fan club.
This upcoming trek is tied to what will be the band’s last studio release — the self-titled Megadeth, arriving January 23, 2026. The record has already made headlines thanks to Dave Mustaine’s confirmation that it includes a surprise bonus cover of METALLICA’s “Ride the Lightning.”
MEGADETH’s decision to retire comes straight from Mustaine himself, who said he wanted to step away while the band was still at its peak.
“There’s so many musicians that have come to the end of their career, whether accidental or intentional. Most of them don’t get to go out on their own terms on top and that’s where I’m at in my life right now,” Mustaine explained when he announced the farewell. “This is also a perfect time for us to tell you that it’s our last studio album. We’ve made a lot of friends over the years and I hope to see all of you on our global farewell tour,” he continued. “Don’t be mad, don’t be sad, be happy for us all, come celebrate with me these next few years. We have done something together that’s truly wonderful and will probably never happen again.”
The newly announced South American shows are only part of what’s shaping up to be a massive farewell campaign. MEGADETH will also join IRON MAIDEN later in 2026 as special guests on the British icons’ “Run For Your Lives” North American tour — giving fans one last chance to see two of metal’s most legendary forces share the stage.
