MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has released a new video message in which he wishes fans “a very happy Memorial Day weekend.”
The clip also includes footage of Mustaine playing one of his new signature Gibson guitars, as well as promoting a “Memorial Day flash sale” at Craftshack, where fans can purchase MEGADETH‘s two beer collaborations with Unibroue, À Tout Le Monde and Saison 13.
Earlier this week, MEGADETH fired bassist David Ellefson following accusations that the bassist groomed a minor.
In a statement posted on their social media accounts, band stated: “We are informing our fans that David Ellefson is no longer playing with MEGADETH and that we are officially parting ways with him. We do not take this decision lightly,” the band wrote in a statement.
“While we do not know every detail of what occurred, with an already strained relationship, what has already been revealed now is enough to make working together impossible moving forward.”
The May 24 post, which was signed by Mustaine — who formed MEGADETH with Ellefson in 1983 — concluded that the remaining members “look forward to seeing our fans on the road this summer, and we cannot wait to share our brand new music with the world. It is almost complete.”
Two days later, Ellefson issued a following statement: “Recently, a very private video was illegally posted on the internet and false allegations were made against me. The actions in the video were between two consenting adults and were recorded without my knowledge. I am working with Scottsdale Police Department in their investigation into charges regarding revenge p*rnography to be filed against the person who posted this video. Also, my lawyers are preparing a defamation lawsuit to be filed against this person. This person will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
“I am taking this time to be with my family. I wish my bandmates the best with their upcoming tour.”
MEGADETH is in a bit of hurry to find a new bassist since their ““The Metal Tour Of The Year” with LAMB OF GOD is scheduled to kick off on Friday, August 20 in Austin, Texas and hit a further 26 cities before wrapping in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada on Saturday, October 2. Joining them will be special guests TRIVIUM and IN FLAMES, heralding the long-awaited return to the stage for these bands, who are every bit as excited about these historic and not-to-be-missed shows as fans are.
Tickets and dates for the tour are available at this location.
