METALLICA is proving once again that their impact goes far beyond the stage. In collaboration with their charitable foundation, All Within My Hands (AWMH), and the American Red Cross, the legendary heavy metal band has helped collect over 1,000 blood donations — and counting — through a special nationwide campaign launched in conjunction with the current U.S. leg of their massive “M72” world tour.
Kicking off just over a month ago, the Red Cross x Metallica blood drive series has brought fans together for more than just the music. With drives organized in select cities along the tour route, the Metallica family has shown up in full force — ready to roll up their sleeves and make a life-saving difference. Each donation has the potential to help save more than one life, benefiting patients in trauma situations, those undergoing cancer treatments, and individuals living with chronic conditions like sickle cell disease.
This week marked the 1,000th blood donation, a major milestone in a campaign that still has several events remaining through June in cities such as Houston, TX; Santa Clara, CA; and Denver, CO.
Darren Irby, Executive Director of National Partnerships for the Red Cross, highlighted the campaign’s broader impact: “The Red Cross appreciates the impact this partnership has made in the lives of people in trauma situations, and those facing cancer and chronic conditions, like sickle cell disease. Not only are donors who give regularly coming to give at these blood drives, but we are welcoming many new donors who have never given before — a true sign of how METALLICA and All Within My Hands are inspiring people to give back across the country.”
AWMH, founded in 2017, was created to support workforce education, fight hunger, and provide disaster relief. Taking advantage of the opportunities that touring brings, the foundation regularly looks for ways to give back to the communities they visit — and this collaboration with the Red Cross is a perfect example of that mission in action.
As a special thank-you, donors at these events receive a limited-edition Red Cross x Metallica t-shirt, while supplies last — a unique token for fans making a difference.
